Contraindications

Warnings and Precautions

Methylene blue may interact with serotonergic medications and other agents affecting monoamine pathways. Caution is advised in individuals taking antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, or other medications that may interact with methylene blue. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medical conditions, medications, and supplements prior to use. Urine or stool discoloration may occur. Take only as prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider.

Potential Side Effects

Reported side effects associated with oral methylene blue formulations may include gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, headache, dizziness, anxiety, restlessness, or discoloration of urine or stool. Serious adverse reactions are uncommon but may occur. Patients should seek immediate medical attention if they experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, neurologic symptoms, or symptoms suggestive of serotonin toxicity.
