Compounded Medication – Prescription Only
This product is a compounded nasal spray preparation containing bremelanotide formulated in a sterile saline solution and dispensed only pursuant to a valid prescription issued by a licensed healthcare provider. Bremelanotide is a synthetic peptide compound. In compounding practice, peptide formulations may be prescribed when a provider determines that individualized formulation or route-of-administration considerations are clinically appropriate for a specific patient. This product is not available for self-selection and may only be dispensed following provider authorization. Compounded medications are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). General Scientific Information (Non-Therapeutic)
Bremelanotide, also referenced in scientific literature as PT-141, is a synthetic peptide studied for its molecular structure and interaction with melanocortin receptor systems in laboratory and controlled research environments. Descriptions of molecular characteristics or receptor-binding properties are provided solely for general scientific context. No claims are made regarding safety, effectiveness, neurologic activity, sexual function, central signaling, or suitability for any particular condition.
Contraindications
Bremelanotide nasal spray should not be used in individuals who have a known hypersensitivity or allergy to bremelanotide, peptide-based compounds, or any component of the compounded formulation; have experienced prior adverse reactions to intranasal peptide preparations; or have nasal conditions that may interfere with intranasal administration as determined by the prescribing healthcare provider.
Use in pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should occur only if a licensed healthcare provider determines that potential risks and benefits have been carefully evaluated.
Warnings and Precautions
Intranasal absorption of bremelanotide may occur. Bremelanotide may cause transient increases in blood pressure and decreases in heart rate. Caution is advised in individuals with cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or those receiving medications that affect blood pressure or heart rate. Local nasal irritation may occur. Avoid use in the presence of active nasal infection or significant nasal mucosal injury unless directed by a licensed healthcare provider. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medical conditions, medications, and allergies prior to using this compounded formulation.
Potential Side Effects
Reported side effects associated with intranasal bremelanotide formulations may include nasal irritation, congestion, or discomfort; headache; nausea; flushing; dizziness or lightheadedness; fatigue; or transient changes in blood pressure or heart rate. Serious adverse reactions are uncommon but may occur. Patients should seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, significant cardiovascular effects, or unexpected systemic symptoms.
