Epitalon, also known as Epithalon is often considered the “fountain of youth peptide” and is a synthetic four amino acid peptide based on Epithalamin, which is a natural occurring compound produced in all humans from within the pineal gland in the brain.
Developed in the 1980’s by a Russian team of scientists led by Professor Vladimir Khavinson, Epitalon was tested and patented to help in the field of age management medicine and longevity. His team found Epitalon to regulate metabolism in the brain, improve hypothalamus function (the command center of the brain), restore the function of the anterior pituitary to better regulate levels of key hormones, and potentially stimulate growth of brain and spinal nerves. Through these mechanisms of action, Epitalon can help slow down the aging process by restoring functions of various organ systems.
Epitalon’s primary role is to increase the natural production of telomerase, a key survival enzyme. Telomerase activates the protective proteins of our DNA (telomeres) that help the body produce new cells while rejuvenating old ones. Throughout our lives our cells continuously divide and with each division, cellular DNA gets replicated. This causes progressive shortening of telomeres and aging until the cell eventually dies. The enzyme telomerase is responsible for the health of these protective ends of the DNA strand. As each year goes by, telomerase is generated less, resulting in progressive telomere shortening. One of the ways to slow aging is to slow down the shortening of telomeres or even lengthen them. Healthy lifestyle changes as well as peptide therapies like Epitalon are considered to help this process.
